The seam must be welded once a plate has been rolled into a cylindrical shape. A WEBB seam welder is an efficient solution for completing this process. We offer a variety of seam welders in different sizes and types (toggle or air cylinder) to meet your tank fabrication needs. The J Series can handle material thicknesses of up to 10 gauge, the L Series accommodates up to 7/16 inches, and the H Series can manage up to 1/2 inch.
On the L and H Series, the upper hold-down bars and backing bars are made of copper to minimize magnetic interference with the welding arc and ensure a high-quality single pass weld. Additionally, the backing bars are water-cooled. Both series feature a robust steel construction, and all critical surfaces are machined to ensure the precision required for automatic welding. When using input air pressure up to 125 PSI, clamping pressures of up to 1,000 pounds per linear inch can be applied uniformly against the hold-down bars through parallel joints actuated by a push bar, lever, and heavy-duty air cylinders or toggles. A four-way air valve controls the opening and closing speed of the clamp, which can be adjusted using check valves. The air system is safeguarded by an air filter, regulator, and lubricator. The hold-down and backing bars are easy to replace, with the latter designed to be machined several times before needing replacement. In typical operations, each machining of the bar lasts about nine months.
